Jobs Hatchery is a non profit corporation with the mission to turnaround lives by providing tools and resources that connect people with jobs. We are still a baby, having been established in October 2013. And we are still learning a lot about the unmet needs in the Memphis community, so a work in progress.
We do things like help people get an email set up and get comfortable with using a computer, create a resume or enhance a resume to improve access to job opportunities, and connect people with job opportunities that are a good fit for them – something they like to do, that they do really well, that someone is willing to pay for.
We post job opportunities weekly on our website www.jobshatchery.org and send out an emailed weekly Prayer Blast that includes scripture, prayers, and inspirational stories to help people keep going/not give up on life and job search. We plan to publish an e-booklet later this year as a fundraiser...look for more info later!
We host a monthly networking Roundtable (held in Midtown at CoWork Memphis) with guest speakers who share their stories of business success and challenges that they have overcome. Go to www.meetup.com/jobs-hatchery-entrepreneurs/
In some cases, we will mentor individuals to establish a small business by helping them develop a business plan and providing a micro-loan to get started. Currently, we have one company funded who is repaying the loan at 3% interest and they also pay us 2% royalties on sales for the first ten years they are in business. We meet with them weekly to review their ongoing business needs and to mentor them through obstacles that may arise. The money that we receive back from them goes into a micro loan fund to fund more little businesses and also to help cover our overhead and expenses of Jobs Hatchery. Currently we do not have any paid staff of Jobs Hatchery.
In 2015 our vision to establish a "House of Hope" as a resource center in the Jackson/Nutbush Neighborhood so that people in the area can walk to work and also access a variety of resources that are not easily accessed in the area at this time. This project is in the research stage. Our goal with this project is to create jobs, improve housing, and strengthen neighborhood values in the Jackson/Nutbush Neighborhood.
